Shannen Doherty will appear in TV Land’s upcoming Heathers pilot.
The network confirmed the casting in a statement to ET: “She will portray a pivotal, unnamed character. The pilot will be set in the present day, as our heroine Veronica deals with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.”
Doherty also shared the news via her Instagram on Tuesday.
“Sneak peek from the #Heathers set,” Doherty wrote in the caption of a photo of herself in wardrobe. “Jealous much?”
The dark 1988 cult classic followed Veronica (Winona Ryder) and her friend J.D. (Christian Slater) and their battle against their high school’s social order and three popular girls named Heather that ends with murders staged to appear as suicides.
Doherty’s original role, Heather Duke, will be played by Brendan Scannell. In the new version, the character identifies as gender queer and their real name is Heath.
This news comes as the 45-year-old actress is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in February 2015.
Last month, she celebrated her five-year wedding anniversary with husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko.
